Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is procedure where a telescope is inserted inside the uterus under general anesthesia. This enables your doctor to evaluate the inside of the uterine cavity for evidence of fibroids, scarring, congenital anomalies (uterine septum), polyps and scarring (adhesions).

Once the patient is under general anesthesia, the cervix is dilated to allow for the insertion of the hysteroscope. The hysteroscope is the next inserted and the uterine cavity is distended utilizing fluid. Hysteroscopy is an outpatient surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia in the operating room in a day care surgical center.
